The Red Badge of Courage - Chapter 17

Abstract -
At the beginning of chapter 17, Henry was thinking about the hatred he felt towards the enemy. Their men never seemed to tire out, and his army was always on the defense or backing away from battle. He didn't understand how they had such strength to continually fight. He wanted to seek revenge on the enemy and annihilate them. During the battle he shot at all the shadows he saw through the smoke. When the enemy retreated, he kept shooting until he heard one of the men laughing and telling him there was nothing left to shoot at. The lieutenant seemed to be extremely proud of Henry and the rest of the men looked upon him as a war devil. He said the army would never see another new regiment like theirs.

Response -
This chapter seems to be like the beginning of Henry's change. He stayed with his regiment and fought. He was able to find the hatred he needed to fight the enemy and want to annihilate them. He made his superiors proud, and found the strength to be a part of the fighting.

Questions -
Is Henry planning on staying with his regiment now or will he end up leaving again?
